The main claim that many shredder companies make is that their high security shredders can can eat through staples and paperclips. While technically, yes, a high security shredder has the ability to shred through a staple, we want to remind you that doing so will seriously harm your shredder.

Almost every currently available high security shredder has a solid cutting head, which features cutting teeth that are located extremely close together.  When something as seemingly harmless and small as a staple or paper clip runs through the cutting chamber you run the risk of misaligning the cutting head which can compromise the size of your paper shred, no longer guaranteeing you high security document destruction. These cutting heads are very expensive, and could cost upwards of $3,000 to repair if they become damaged, and would be highly unlikely to be covered under the manufacturer’s warranty. The bottom line is that no high security shredder is equipped to accept paperclips and staples without running the risk of damage to the machine.

While it may seem like a tedious inconvenience, removing staples and paper clips from your documents before shredding will prove to be worth the hassle in the long run. WThe 2360 SMC paper shredder cannot take staples or paperclips.ith proper maintenance and care, your high security shredder will last you up to 10 years.
