Features of the Cumberland CMS 850 Medium Duty Single Shaft Shredder (CMS Series)
18" diameter (15" on the CMS 850 model) drum style rotor provides efficient cutting of various processscrap
Low speed rotor (102 rpm) transmits high cutting torque for tough applications
The low speed cutting action reduces noise levels
Standard rotor is fabricated using abrasion resistant steel for long life in high wear applications
4 edge 1.3" (34mm) reversible cutters with bolt in replaceable knife seat for easy maintenance
"Swing style" hydraulic ram along with the tangential cutting chamber design allows material to maintain contact with the rotor on both cycles of the ram
"Swing style" ram enables reduced footprint
Two speed 7.5hp (5hp on the 850) ram hydraulic system maximizes pressure while shredding that
changes to high speed while not contacting material
Heavy duty self aligning outboard mounted bearings that reduce the possibility of material contamination
Multiple doors for easy access during cleaning and maintenance

Description of the Cumberland CMS 850 Medium Duty Single Shaft Shredder (CMS Series)
Any industry that must reclaim or process heavier duty scrap and rejects knows that multi-phase processing is often the best approach. This is why the CMS Series of shredders from Cumberland is a solid choice. They are meant to handle almost any sort of material, including wood industry discard, molding startup purgings, heavy duty paper, and even film or baled materials. The Cumberland CMS 850 Medium Duty Single Shaft Shredder, the smaller unit in the series, can become a real asset to those with demanding reclamation needs. The unit has a large 33" x 52" hopper infeed that uses a tangential design for efficiency. The "swinging" style hydraulic ram keeps the materials in constant contact with the rotor and bed knives while also maximizing pressure. This adds up to optimized shredding that puts the rotor and bed knives to best use, all in a relatively small footprint for a heavy duty shredder. The rotor is 15" in diameter and relies on lower speeds to handle high torque cutting. It is made from abrasion resistant metal and has sixty D2 cutters that interact with six four-edge bed knives. These blades, partnered with the swing hopper ram and the two speed hydraulic system, guarantee that processing is consistent and high quality.
The heavier duty self-aligning bearings also ensure that the 50HP motor is put to the most efficient use as well. Though the Cumberland CMS 850 Medium Duty Single Shaft Shredder is capable of processing materials ranging in size from one to four inches (and depending on the screen size in use), it is even better when partnered with a granulator. The use of an inline granulator in addition to the shredding activities will allow most Cumberland granulators to obtain 150% of their originally established throughput, even in such small sizes as 1/8" to 1/2" granulate. In terms of maintenance and upkeep, the Cumberland CMS 850 Medium Duty Single Shaft Shredder is also extremely optimized. The blades are bolted into their seats for easy removal and repair. There are numerous doors on the unit to allow instant, safe, and immediate clearing, cleaning, and maintenance. Because this unit uses low turning speeds for the rotor, it is also among the quietest in terms of operation as well. If you are in need of heavy duty shredding of a range of material types, this unit is a good stand alone or partner to a granulator.
