Description of the Datastroyer 105 Hard Drive Drawer DeGausser

With the ability to erase laptop, desktop, and network hard drives up to 5,000 Oe, the Datastroyer 105 Hard Drive drawer degausser is the source for data destruction for companies with sensitive data yet do not need the added security measures as directed by NSA requirements. Weighing 45lbs, the Datastroyer 105 Hard Drive degausser is light enough for tabletop and floor operation. Equiped with automatic on/off operation, the drawer degausser is simple to use and does not require the removal of hard drive platters. It's guaranteed to degauss drives up to 8 terabytes in size. The Datastroyer 105 operates up to 15,000 Gauss (1.5 Telsa), meeting sanitization standards set by NIST and the U.S. Department of Defense. Simple push button operation renders hard drive data, within the dimensions of the drawer (1"x4.3"x6"), unusable and unrecoverable in under 5 seconds. An eco-friendly alternative to ensure data security, the Datastroyer 105 Hard drive drawer degausser is the method of choice for data protection.
Q: Can we reuse the drive after degaussing ?
A: The hard drive will be rendered completely useless and irrecoverable after degaussing. It cannot be reused again.

does a very good job

Finny story. I actually degaussed the wrong hard drive once that contained data we were NOT ready to dispose of. We send the drive off to a hard drive forensics company for an evaluation to see what it would cost to restore it. They told us that it was toast, nothing they had in their arsenal would be able to bring that data back. So here I am leaving a five star review for the machine that got me in a bit of trouble! But at least I know that this is doing a good job and protecting our patient's data.

Love it but...

I love my 105 degausser but I just wish there was some way to know for sure that the data had been erased. You get a thump and a green light but the only way to know that everything was erased is to plug it into a computer. It hasn't failed me yet but you really have to trust the machine.

We used to take the hard drives to the parking lot at the end of the day and give them a few whacks with a hammer. But somebody got cut by debris so no fun for us anymore. They purchased this machine instead and I have no complaints. It takes about 5 seconds and doesn't make much noise at all.
